See Who’s Part of Olivia Benson’s Squad in ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 27

“Law & Order: SVU” is back for more action this fall, and Capt. Olivia Benson is once again taking names.

The 27th season of the NBC series from Wolf Entertainment premieres Thursday, Sept. 25, at 9 p.m. ET, with new episodes airing Thursday nights and streaming the following day on Peacock.

(NBC and Peacock are part of our parent company, NBCUniversal.)

Fans can also look forward to a new season of “Law & Order” when it debuts on the same night at 8 p.m. ET. The fifth season of the Chris Meloni-led “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” which moved from NBC to Peacock after Season 4, will air in the 10 p.m. time slot.

It also seems like Meloni will make a guest appearance in the premiere “SVU” episode, as he was spotted on set in August and is in a new scene with Benson (Mariska Hargitay) in a recent promo.

“We’ve had a pretty good run,” Stabler says to Benson.

“We still have more to do,” she responds.

Capt. Benson is back! Hargitay, who has been with the series since the start in 1999, will again lead her squad each week in an effort to put New York City’s especially heinous criminals behind bars.

Hargitay described the opportunity to lead each day on set as “a joy and a privilege.”

“We have so much fun, and I am so deeply invested, and I really look at it as a team,” she told “Access” ahead of Season 27. “That’s how I lead, I think, by keeping the team together and the team focused.”

The team also recruited a new showrunner, Michele Fazekas, who previously wrote for the show in earlier seasons.

“I’ve always had a secret dream of having a female showrunner, because of the issues that we are dealing with,” Hargitay said about the show’s subject matter.

As for Benson’s personal life in the new season, it remains to be seen if her son, Noah (Ryan Buggle), will make any appearances and if she’ll finally take that next step from friendship to romance with Stabler.

Ice-T — Sgt. Odafin ‘Fin’ Tutuola

Fans of “Law & Order: SVU” aren’t the only ones who are eager to find out if Benson and Stabler will ever get together. Ice-T, who joined the show’s cast in Season 2, recently weighed in on the subject as he prepared to return for Season 27.

“I’ve been telling them to get a room for a long time,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

But when it comes to Fin’s life in the new season, things get off to a rough start.

Ice-T posted a photo of himself July 31 to Instagram with a bruised eye and bandage.

“Back filming SVU and the first scene I shoot…. I get Fd up! It’s in the script,” he captioned the post.

Peter Scanavino — Assistant District Attorney Dominick ‘Sonny’ Carisi

Peter Scanavino joined the cast of “Law & Order: SVU” in Season 16 in 2014. During Season 26, he participated in a crossover event between the show and “Law & Order.” At the time, he spoke to TODAY.com about the exciting opportunity for ADA Carisi to spend time at the mothership.

“It did feel kind of like an achievement for not just my character, but also for myself,” he said, “and, you know, kind of growing up on original ‘Law & Order.’ I’d been in it as a guest star, but to be in it as this character, it felt great.”

When he first joined the show over a decade ago, the actor couldn’t have predicted he’d still be in the same exciting role now.

“But I’m certainly glad that I am … I’m very grateful to have been on this show, which has changed my life completely,” he said.

It will be interesting to see Carisi’s dynamic with wife Amanda Rollins, portrayed by Kelli Giddish, who’s returning as a series regular in the new season.

Scanavino told TODAY.com in 2024 he always had a feeling that the work partnership between Rollins and Carisi would eventually turn romantic.

“It had such a good payoff, but I don’t know — I always saw they got along well. And I always thought that there was maybe something else to that relationship,” he said.

Kevin Kane — Detective Terry Bruno

The previous season of “Law & Order: SVU” was a big one for Kevin Kane since he was promoted to a series regular. The actor officially joined the show as Detective Terry Bruno in Season 24, but he also played four other characters on the show since 2008.

In Season 26, Bruno confided in Benson during a case, telling her he was assaulted by a neighbor as a teenager.

Benson asked Bruno if he had ever told anyone this story before.

“Yeah. You, right now,” he replied.

Kelli Giddish — Amanda Rollins

Rollins first joined “Law & Order: SVU” in 2011. After 12 seasons, Giddish announced that she was leaving the show in 2022. She went on to make multiple guest appearances, however, including in Season 26.

In May, viewers learned that Giddish would be returning to the show as a series regular starting in Season 27.

Hargitay previously told Variety in 2024 she has always wanted Giddish to stay on the show.

“It’s a sore subject. I have a lot of say on the show, but I didn’t have enough there,” she said.

Aimé Donna Kelly — Capt. Renee Curry

“Law & Order: SVU” fans got some exciting news over the summer when Deadline reported that Aimé Donna Kelly was upgraded to series regular.

Kelly first appeared on the show in Season 22 as an IAB captain who questioned Benson. After a few more appearances, she had a regular presence once Benson brought her over to the Special Victims Unit after she assisted the squad on a case.

“It was just very clear that Curry fit so well with the squad,” Kelly told TODAY.com in an interview ahead of Season 27.

“Getting to work with Mariska and learn from her, I think you’re seeing kind of a reflection of that in these two characters. Like, Curry learned so much from Benson, and me, Aimé, I’m learning so much from Mariska. So, it just translates really well on screen, I think — I hope,” she said.

A ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Returns — But for How Long?

Octavio Pisano — Detective Joe Velasco

In May, viewers learned that Octavio Pisano and Juliana Aidén Martinez were leaving “Law & Order: SVU” after Season 26.

Pisano first joined the series in Season 23 as Detective Joe Velasco. Meanwhile, Martinez first appeared as Detective Kate Silva in Season 26.

Deadline reported in July that Pisano would return for the Season 27 premiere.

Hargitay also shared a video from the set that showed Pisano in the background.

In the Season 26 finale, Velasco was promoted to detective second grade. Benson surprised him with his colleagues at a bar to celebrate the news
