FBI Showrunner Shuts Down Crossover Rumor Sparked by Law & Order Easter Egg Fans May Have Missed

Dick Wolf’s two TV worlds won’t be colliding any time soon, probably. While a few eagle-eyed fans noticed a mention of Hudson University, a fictional mainstay in the Law & Order universe, during the latest installment of CBS’s FBI, the similarities between the two institutions appear to be in name only, according to FBI‘s executive producer Mike Weiss.

Following news of the Easter egg connecting FBI to Law & Order, which airs on NBC, Weiss recently confirmed that Maggie Bell and OA Zidan won’t be crossing paths with Jessica Brady and company for at least the foreseeable future. “There is no crossover from NBC to CBS,” the showrunner recently told CinemaBlend of FBI‘s Hudson University mention. “There is a bright line between those two universes.”

As ScreenRant noted, however, this isn’t the only instance in which Hudson University has been mentioned on FBI. Last year, an institution of the same name served as the backdrop for Season 7’s “Pledges,” where a student was found dead in the school’s auditorium following a protest.

Though some fans of the two network TV shows may be disappointed to hear that the agents from the two Wolf Entertainment series aren’t set to team up on any crimes, Weiss’ statement is far from the only clue that these shows will stay in their own lanes — and networks. While discussing actress Juliana Aidén Martinez’s appearance on FBI last month, Weiss offered confirmation that the actress would not be reprising her Law & Order: SVU role as Kate Silva in her move to the CBS series.

“This happens a lot at Wolf [Entertainment] because there are just actors that do a great job, and the Wolf team wants to keep them in the mix,” Weiss also told Cinemablend, taking care to clarify that Martinez would not be “coming over as the same character.”

“This is a brand new character for her, and she’s playing a character named Eva Ramos, who is new to the team,” the TV mogul continued of the character. “She’s going to bring a slightly different approach to the work that we all do.”

Martinez isn’t the only star to jump from project to project within Wolf’s TV universe. Alana de la Garza originally starred as Connie Rubirosa in the Law & Order franchise before tackling the role of Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille in FBI and its various spin-offs. Jeremy Sisto also had a similar trajectory. After portraying Clint Glover in one episode of Law & Order before starring as Detective Cyrus Lupo on the same series, Sisto later went on to play Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine in FBI
