EastEnders wedding florist describes 'surreal' job

A florist who helped design an EastEnders wedding set described the experience as “surreal”.

On Monday, the BBC soap aired the flowery union between Patrick and Yolande.

Sarah Rozee, 52, who runs a business in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, said she was “a bit nervous” but tried to treat the gig “like any other job”.

She described the odd moment of sitting on a bench next to actor Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale, as he drunk a rum punch.

“We were just mingling and they were all really lovely,” she said.

Ms Rozee said she did a lot of weddings and events but this was her first high profile work for TV.

She said it was “good fun” watching the episode back with her family, which was filmed in June.

“I kept pointing things out and saying, ‘Oh, that’s my buttonhole. Oh, did you see those ribbons?’.”

Ms Rozee explained that the showrunners were keen to be efficient and eco-friendly by using materials they already owned.

The flower arrangement was themed with the colours of the Jamaican and Trinidad and Tobago flags.

She used flowers including Birds of Paradise, Strelitzia and Anthuriums.

“There were two floral arches that flanked either side of the aisle and then there was an artificial arch – and then we did fresh flowers for buttonholes, wrist corsages – the bouquet was fresh as well,” she explained.

“That looked really good when I saw it on screen last night. I was really impressed with that.”
