EastEnders Joel Marshall star breaks silence on Vicki Fowler attack in ‘awareness’ message

EastEnders Joel Marshall star has broken his silence on the teenager character’s Vicki Fowler attack as he provided an ‘awareness’ message.

Played by Max Murray, Joel has been causing issues across Walford since being introduced to the BBC soap earlier in the year.
To date, Joel has sexually assaulted a stranger on a train while getting his friend Tommy Moon to film it, recorded himself having intimate relations with schoolgirl Avani Nandra-Hart without her permission, and leaked adult footage of Stacey Slater online.
It was also revealed that Joel, who arrived in Walford with his dad Ross Marshall and his girlfriend Vicki Fowler, could not return to Australia because he ‘up-skirted’ a girl, and Ross paid off the family to avoid going to the police.

Things escalated further in scenes aired on Thursday (October 9) as Joel got in trouble for showing his classmates an explicit video in school and later hitting Amy Mitchell, who called him out.

After receiving a telling off from home by his dad Ross Marshall, Vicki Fowler proceeded to give out to him for his actions in recent months.

“You get off in making women feel small. That’s why you told me I needed a good slap. That’s not wrong? That’s not disgusting? Do you know how pathetic that is? How weak that makes you?

“You are just a scared little boy who throws a tantrum when he doesn’t get his own way and it doesn’t matter what you hear on your stupid little videos because my eyes are open and I can see the truth.

“You will never be a real man because you don’t even know what it means. You’re a pathetic little beta male, a silly little twerp. And you should feel embarrassed, you should feel humiliated because I am so much stronger than you,” she said.

Furious at Vicki for speaking to him like that, Joel proceeded to punch her and film her as she struggled to get up from the floor.

With Vicki’s fate to be revealed next week, Joel actor Max was seen immediately after the episode in a documentary titled EastEnders Investigates: The Manosphere.

Joined by Amy actress Ellie Dadd and Denise Fox’s Diane Parish, the three Albert Square stars were seen exploring the issues raised by Joel’s misogyny storyline.

Praised by fans for how it handled the sensitive subject matter, Max took to Instagram to share an update with his followers after it aired.

“I’ve just finished watching tonight’s episode of EastEnders and EastEnders Investigates: The Manosphere documentary and wow, just amazing performance from everyone in the episode, and the whole team is just amazing.
