EastEnders fans said it was ‘like a horror film’ as Kat Slater told her son Tommy Moon the truth after a flashback sequenceaired on the BBC soap.
It’s been a tough Halloween for the family, with Anthony Truman warning Kat that her daughter Zoe may be having a psychotic breakdown on Wednesday (October 29).
Halloween got off to a bad start for Alfie Moon when the burst sewer pipe leaked in the barrel store, only to discover a VHS tape from the 1980s when he went to clean up the mess.
With the Queen Vic holding a Halloween party, things escalated when Zoe returned to discover the VHS footage playing, which featured her dad and Kat’s uncle Harry, and threw everyone out of the pub as a result.
Walford has already begun to turn against Zoe after it was revealed she lied about Dennis Rickman being her twins’ dad in order to get money from Sharon Watts.
In scenes aired on Thursday night (October 30), Zoe became increasingly paranoid that someone is out to get her and accused Anthony before kicking him out of The Vic.
Questions of the past came to the fore as Kat, Zoe and Tommy later watched the video from 1988 as Kat decided it was time to open up to Tommy about her childhood.
With new actors playing the beloved characters, Halloween 1998 saw Harry return home from Spain to surprise his family.
Seen pushing himself onto Kat and her younger siblings, Kat revealed to Tommy that Zoe was born as a result of her uncle assaulting her.
Just weeks after defending Joel Marshall for some of his misogynistic actions, Tommy began to realise the dangers of not treating women with respect.
With Tommy saying he wished he had a Time Machine to go back in time and help his mum, Kat began to tear up as they shared an emotional hug.
In another worrying sign that Zoe may need help, the episode concluded with her suffering a bad fall after going to investigate a noise she heard, only for her family to tell her that no one was in the house.
Following the flashback scenes, EastEnders fans took to Reddit to have their say on seeing Kat’s upsetting past and praised Tommy actor Sonny Kendall for his continued hard work.
@Relative-Play-6144 said: “I hope Tommy is nominated about some awards for his performance, he’s been fantastic in the last few episodes. Beautiful scenes between them today.” @Bears_are_the_best_2 added: “That was like a horror film at times. Sonny Kendall (Tommy) is an amazing actor. I almost cried in those scenes.”
@Hausofmiren wrote: “I am loving this side of him where he’s developing into a man and becoming a good kid. I really hope the producers do not get tempted by turning him bad and turning himself against the slaters. This is the perfect opportunity to make a good kid be the beacon of the square!”
@Icy_Sentence_4130 commented: “Can we talk about how Tommy is growing so much as a character? I had chills. Not bad chills. Emotional chills on how generational trauma can affect the whole family, not just the victim.” @No_Witness9533 stated: “Loved the scenes between Kat and Tommy – Jessie Wallace and Sonny Kendall are both brilliant and work so well together, they are really believable as mother and son.”
