EastEnders airs heartbreaking Ben and Callum outcome tonight in funeral drama
EastEnders’ Ben Mitchell is back in Walford, having made an unexpected return at his father-in-law’s funeral. But he’s in for a shock, as his husband Callum Highway is hiding a secret about his new relationship with Johnny Carter that changes everything.
The Mitchells discovered the truth about Callum and Johnny’s romance this week and were furious but agreed to keep quiet as long as Callum broke the news to Ben and Lexi as soon as possible.
Ben wasn’t behind bars in America as expected though, as he then showed up at Jonno’s funeral as a surprise.
As Callum was left stunned in today’s episode, Ben explained that he had turned informant on his cellmate so had been transferred to a UK prison and had been granted day release for the funeral.
Ben was thrilled to see his husband, while Callum was forced to keep schtum about his secret as he made a speech at his estranged dad’s graveside.
After the burial, Ben insisted that they head back to Walford for drinks at The Vic, and in the Square he reunited with his overjoyed parents Kathy and Phil – but Phil wasn’t happy that his son was still oblivious about Callum.
Johnny insisted that Callum shouldn’t spill the beans to Ben just yet, but Callum was keen for the truth to come from him. In heartbreaking scenes, he told his husband that he had started seeing someone else.
It didn’t take long for Ben to work out that the other man was Johnny, and he lunged at him in fury. But the situation got even worse when Ben realised that his family already knew about Callum’s betrayal and didn’t tell him.
Later in a candid chat, Callum explained to Ben how his new relationship had developed – and Ben wasn’t happy that Phil had used Lexi to threaten him in recent weeks.
Ben wanted to check that Callum was happy with Johnny, and when Callum admitted that he loved his new partner, Ben declared he wanted a divorce and made out that he’d had lots of romantic encounters himself in prison.
But back in his cell, ahead of moving to a Manchester prison in the next few days, Ben looked devastated about the day’s events and gazed sadly at an old photo of him, Callum and Lexi.
Is this officially the end of Ben and Callum?
