Don’t Miss This Low-Budget ‘S.W.A.T.’ Movie Before It Leaves Streaming

It’s been six months since S.W.A.T. was cancelled for the final time on CBS, with fans still hoping for a comeback despite the previously announced spin-off S.W.A.T.: Exiles. The follow-up series was announced in May 2025, following the original’s finale, with Shemar Moore set to reprise his role of Hondo and production scheduled for this summer. An arrival date has yet to be announced, but as many anticipate one, it’s not too late to check out other S.W.A.T. productions, one of which is leaving streaming very soon.

That production is the third installment of the S.W.A.T. film series, titled S.W.A.T.: Under Siege, and was released direct-to-video on August 1, 2017. The movie wasn’t much of a hit entry in the acclaimed franchise, but it offers decent action and some strong performances, particularly from one of its leads, Michael Jai White. Now, we’ve learned that as part of the titles leaving in October, Netflix has added S.W.A.T.: Under Siege, giving S.W.A.T. fans only a few weeks to check out the low-budget film.

S.W.A.T.: Under Siege came after another direct-to-video franchise film, S.W.A.T.: Firefight, which debuted in 2011 as a standalone sequel to the 2003 film S.W.A.T. Similar to the 2017 series, S.W.A.T. is based on the ABC police procedural of the same name that aired for two seasons from February 24, 1975, to April 3, 1976. The 2003 crime thriller is the first installment in the film series, directed by Clark Johnson. Starring in it were Samuel L. JacksonColin FarrellMichelle RodriguezLL Cool JJosh Charles, and Jeremy Renner.

What’s the Latest on the ‘S.W.A.T.’ Franchise?

Filming of S.W.A.T.: Exiles is set for this month, with only Moore confirmed as a returnee from the original series. No other familiar faces have been announced yet, but a very recent update has hinted at the possibility of more S.W.A.T. members appearing in the spin-off. Earlier this week, a glance at IMDb revealed that several of the series’ major players – such as Jay Harrington and David Lim, who portrayed David “Deacon” Kay and Victor Tan, respectively – have not been attached to any other major projects yet. Neither is set to appear in S.W.A.T.: Exiles, nor are they tied to any shows scheduled for the fall season. Hopefully, this means that fans’ wishes will be granted, and the franchise will bring back these two favorite characters and more.
