CBS Reveals Premiere Date For Kayce Dutton’s Yellowstone’ Spinoff Series, ‘Y: Marshals’

Y Marshals

The series premiere date for the Kayce Dutton-focused Yellowstone spinoff Y: Marshals has now been set.

CBS just recently announced their 2025-2026 midseason lineup. And in case you missed the big news, one of the new series that the network will be airing next spring is “Y: Marshals,” which will feature 13 episodes in its first season. Luke Grimes will reprise his role as Kayce Dutton in the show, which has intrigued a lot of Yellowstone fans. They know very well that one of the main character qualities of Kayce, the youngest of the Dutton siblings, was his prior military experience – specifically as a Navy SEAL.

Based on the show’s proposed log line, it appears the series will explore his trained skillset a bit more:

“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

Sounds like a hit Taylor Sheridan show to me.

The only issue? Yellowstone fans are interested to see how they handle the seemingly violent series after how Kayce Dutton’s character arc in the flagship series came to an end. Remember when he gave up his badge, sold most of the Yellowstone Dutton ranch, and spoke about how he was grateful to finally be free from all of the violence? I guess he got over all of that real quick.

Fans are hoping the new series doesn’t undermine the conclusion in Yellowstone that gave Kayce peace.

If you think about it, the entire run of Yellowstone – at least from Kayce’s perspective – was about his inner turmoil, balancing his obligations to his wife and son and his obligation to help his father keep the ranch (usually in a violent manner). You likely remember that when Kayce finally gets that slice of inner-peace, he breaks down into tears.

All that to say that it’ll be interesting to see how they close that “chapter of peace” and guide Dutton back into his violent ways. For any of those that are concerned, Luke Grimes has said himself that the story that the upcoming Y: Marshals will tell finally gives his Kayce Dutton character some purpose. There are some skeletons in the closet that will be explored, but it sounds like Kayce will still be in a good place even if he has to return to being a bada**.

And fans will be able to watch the first episode of the series in March of next year. CBS has confirmed that the spinoff sequel will air in the spring, and will fall into the coveted 8 E.S.T time slot. The series premiere of Y: Marshals will go out to all Yellowstone fans on Sunday, March 1 on CBS. New episodes of the show will air in same time slot all the way through May – assuming no interruptions or mid-season breaks – until the season finale.
