FBI Spinoff Loses Another Major Name In Just Days
CIA marks Ellis’s first leading TV role since his time as Lucifer Morningstar on the long-running hit Lucifer. But since it was first announced earlier this year, the spinoff has seen a few notable changes.
Deadline reports that Eriq La Salle has departed CIA as an executive producer. La Salle, known to viewers for his three-time Emmy-nominated performance as Dr. Peter Benton on ER, exits just days after Michele’s departure was announced on November 1. He had been attached as an executive producer and director since April, shortly after the spinoff was announced.
Filming on the CBS show has been underway since September and is not expected to be impacted by these departures. La Salle and Michele have both worked together in the past. Michele played Cleo Finch, a fellow doctor and Benton’s love interest, on ER.
Originally planned to premiere in 2025, the series was pushed to 2026 after a change in the writing team. FBI: Most Wanted executive producer David Hudgins was replaced as showrunner by Warren Leight, who previously worked on Law & Order: SVU. It was also planned that three characters from the spinoff, including the one played by Ellis, would appear in the main FBI show before moving to the spinoff.

CIA centers on two unlikely partners. The rule-breaking CIA case officer Hart Hoxon (Ellis) gets paired with the more traditional and seasoned FBI agent, who is played by Chicago Med star Nick Gehlfuss. The duo clash at first over their different approaches. But as they stare down high-stakes cases, with massive security implications, they begin to realize their differences might actually be strengths. Power Book III: Raising Kanan star Natalee Linez is also part of the cast as a CIA analyst.
Coming after the conclusions of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, the CIA spinoff hails from executive producers Dick Wolf and Warren Leight, in addition to Nicole Perlman, David Chasteen, and Peter Jankowski. La Salle is part of that orbit, having worked with Wolf on the short-lived Prime Video cop drama On Call. But it looks like this closely-watched CBS project is still figuring itself out.
